Message	Ring gap is not a good way to check for wear anyway, because u dont know how they were set previously. Much better off just to check compression and then can pull the rod caps/ main girdle to assess the bearings and replace if necessary. Could also pull the heads if work is needed without touching the rest of the assembly.... but then again you're already 3/4 of the way to a rebuild, just without any machine work.
